Most major research funders are committed to open access because they believe that open access is the best way to ensure that the knowledge and discoveries that their funding has supported is shared with the widest possible audience. For this reason, many research funders have an open access requirement as part of the terms and conditions of their research funding and they expect that researchers will make their funded research open access. They may also have expectations around sharing the research data that underpins the research papers. In addition, the REF assessment exercise also has an open access requirement.

The Open Access Service supports Cambridge authors understanding the key funder requirements and how to comply. If you don't comply with your funder's policy, your existing grant may be partially withheld, and you may not be eligible for future funding.
