The General Board has established an Open Access Project Board (OAPB) to manage the transition to Open Access.

The Open Access Project Board has adopted the Open Access Policy Framework.

Please note that the Open Research Steering Committee (ORSC) was established by the General Board in January 2019 to replace the Open Access Project Board, following a recommendation by the Open Research Working Group.

Terms of Reference

  1. To ensure that the University policy framework for Open Access to publications and research data (‘Open Data’) is in place and remains fully fit-for-purpose as the broader policy landscape evolves; and to provide input as required to external consultations on Open Access matters. 
  2. To oversee the distribution and management of block grant allocations from funders to support Open Access requirements.
  3. To oversee the development of the necessary IT system and operational arrangements, including the institutional repository or repositories, and the wider Open Access workflow, to achieve the aims.
  4. To ensure that the University continues to comply with the Open Access requirements of our key funders, including HEFCE and RCUK, regarding both making publications and research data publicly available and providing monitoring and reporting mechanisms as required.
  5. To report to the Research Policy Committee via an annual report and otherwise as necessary.

The Project Board will normally meet twice per annum.
