The first 3m records of the Museum Data Service are now live online. This launch is described by its Board chair Dr Katie Eagleton, University Librarian at St Andrews, as a ‘transformative moment for the UK’s cultural sector’.

The Museum Data Service launch marks a new consolidation of the UK’s museum records. Funded by Bloomberg Philanthropies and the UKRI Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC), it will provide a platform to bring together over 100 million object records from 1,750 accredited museums and other collections across the UK. An MDS Blog Post notes that it should unlock ‘an invaluable resource for researchers, educators, curators, and content developers.’
