Cambridge University Library (CUL) is piloting the Thoth Open Archiving Network which archives publications from small presses across multiple repositories, ensuring preservation if they cease operation. This initiative lets CUL explore open platforms (DSpace software) for the discovery and long-term availability of scholarly works.
Back catalogues of two open monograph publishers are now live in the platform that has been set up and is available at https://thoth-arch.lib.cam.ac.uk/home. Collaboration with Thoth's technical team has enabled the implementation and testing of automated deposit mechanisms into DSpace repositories.
CUL aims to gather insights on content volume, storage, and staffing needs during the three-year pilot and explore preservation options, including integration into the Libraries’ Digital Preservation Programme.
